If you’re looking for hairstyle inspiration, the runways delivered many gorgeous hair trends to inspire your next look.
This season, hair accessories remained a big player, with stylists bringing back some of our favorite old-school favorites. Tousled locks were a popular look last season and continued into Fall 2018 with many shows sending models down the runway with #wokeuplikethis bedhead. On the opposite end of the spectrum, there were those who favored polished, sideswept hair and wet-look finishes.
Retro fans will be glad to hear that there were several throwback references on the runways that extended beyond accessories. A 60s theme was evident at a few different shows, while others chose to channel the general allure of decades gone by with romantic, vintage-inspired ‘dos. Last but definitely not least, shows that featured updos really went for it, creating next-level looks that went beyond the standard ponytail.

7 Hair Trends We're Loving from the Fall 2018 Runways
Woke Up Like This Hair
Put down the hairstyling products and let your hair do its own thing a la the Eudon Choi show. Notice the soft, rumpled texture and hint of frizz?
Woke Up Like This Hair
Take inspiration from the Salvatore Ferragamo Fall 2018 runway and part hair down the center, then let it air-dry. That's it. The result should be an effortless, tousled look.
Woke Up Like This Hair
Take the wash-and-go description literally by shampooing hair, then allowing it to do its own thing as it dries. Preserve a wet-look finish like at the Sportmax show by adding a hint of gel to the ends.
Woke Up Like This Hair
The directive at many runway shows was clear: love bedhead and celebrate hair's texture. At MSGM, models' locks were brushed off their foreheads and allowed to fall wherever.
Woke Up Like This Hair
Oscar de la Renta demonstrated that the key to bedhead hair is to not play around with it. Keep hair products to a minimum to avoid a crispy finish. If hair must be touched, it's only to enhance the texture. The goal is to keep that piecey finish.
Woke Up Like This Hair
Jill Stuart combined tousled locks with major volume for a carefree bohemian vibe. Those with straight strands can copy the look by braiding damp hair into two pigtails. When braids are dry, take them out and gently backcomb ends. Texture and a bit of frizz are key to the style.
Next-Level Updos
Don't let the gold glitter eyes distract from the updos at Ulla Johnson because the hair is equally gorgeous. Models sported a braided hairstyle that snaked around the head to form a twisted bun.
Next-Level Updos
Who says that you have to choose between a ponytail and a bun? The Stella Jean runway proved that wasn't necessary. Hair was looped into a half-ponytail, half-bun. It was sleek and chic. Plus, it's actually very easy to recreate.
Next-Level Updos
Your average ponytail this is not. The hair at Giorgio Armani was separated into different sections with black hair elastics, then strands were twisted together to form a bold ponytail.
Next-Level Updos
This is not a trick of the eyes. Braids took on a gravity-defying finish at the Jil Sander Fall 2018 show thanks to the way hairstylist Eugene Souleiman twisted and sculpted plaits at off-kilter angles.
Wet-Look Hair
Wet-look hair is usually a staple at the spring shows, but it was featured on a few fall runways, including Cividini. This was a drier option with tresses looking damp and piecey as opposed to thoroughly saturated.
Wet-Look Hair
After gazing at the fierce Swarovski crystal-encrusted eyes at Prada, take a look at that messy wet-look hair. Hairstylist Guido Palau slicked hair back but kept the ends messy for a took-a-shower-and-went-out-the-door finish.
Wet-Look Hair
Emilia Wickstead's version of this trending hairstyle combined messy locks with a wet-look finish. The hint of volume at the front of the head appears accidental, but it has been cleverly sculpted to look that way.
Statement Hair Accessories
Alexander Wang abandoned his signature messy bedhead to bring back the claw clip. Guido Palau fastened wet-look locks with silver clips stamped with the designer's logo, nodding to the logomania trend .
Statement Hair Accessories
The Dolce & Gabbana aesthetic celebrates maximalism. For Fall 2018, models were decked out with ornate headbands and floral crowns along with supersized earrings and necklaces. The look demonstrated that, when in doubt, it's better to pile on accessories.
Statement Hair Accessories
Hairstylists at the Jour/Né Fall 2018 show creatively wove different colored scarves into hair to create a romantic look. The random placement is what set the look apart with scarves showing up in the middle of hair or tucked into one side of the head.
Statement Hair Accessories
This is not a skinny blink-and-you-miss-it headband. Hairstylist Orlando Pita selected thick black leather headbands to create the hairstyles at Tom Ford. The placement was key with the band covering part of the ears and forehead for a glamorous 80s vibe.
Statement Hair Accessories
Prabal Gurung had a big throwback moment, sending models down the runway with zigzag headbands. Hairstylist Anthony Turner slicked the hair back with the classic stretchy headband. Does this mean butterfly clips could be the next accessory to make a comeback?
Statement Hair Accessories
These definitely aren't your standard hair clips. The Zadig & Voltaire show offered an upgrade on the schoolgirl hair accessory by pinning hair back with rhinestone-encrusted clips and adding pink feathers to select styles.
Statement Hair Accessories
After accessorizing part lines with diamantés for spring , Dries Van Noten chose an even more unexpected accessory for its Fall 2018 show: feathers. Hairstylist Sam McKnight dyed feathers vivid hues and placed them on the part line. With the colored mascara, it was a simple yet striking look.
Retro Romance
Take a cue from Aigner and play around with different textures to bring a retro look into modern times. Hair was sculpted into pin curls around the part line and ears, but the ends were left undone.
Retro Romance
The looks at Erdem incorporated a few of the top 2018 hair trends thanks to the wet-look finish, the sculpted waves and the low ponytail. The red lipstick also upped the romance factor.
Retro Romance
Scarves were another surprising hair accessory at the shows. N°21 went for pure retro glamour with models donning red lipstick , flicked eyeliner and bright headscarves worked into sculpted, curled updos.
Retro Romance
Mary Katrantzou's signature prints were juxtaposed with sleek faux bob hairstyles. The look had volume on the crown and at the back of the head, creating a swooped effect.
Retro Romance
Deep side parts were a recurring theme in this year's trending hairstyles. Temperley London featured the parting in a retro-tinged 'do with soft waves.
Side Sweep
Hair came wrapped in kerchiefs at the Calvin Luo show, but the wet-look side sweep was still visible. With the bright eyeliner, the look had a modern The Crown vibe.
Side Sweep
The mod violet and hot pink eyes at the Anna Sui Fall 2018 show were complemented with a major side part. It was really more of a comb-over with damp locks being swept across the forehead from one side of the head to the other.
Side Sweep
At Delpozo, hair was parted at the eyebrow, swept to the other side and tied back. It was clean and fresh and a creative update for those who are tired of their huns (half-bun hairstyles ).
Side Sweep
It was all about a dramatic sweep at Marco de Vincenzo with hair coaxed across the forehead. It showed how simply switching up a part can totally change a hairstyle .
Side Sweep
The sideswept hair trend was shown on hair of all different textures and lengths. Fendi demonstrated how a deep side part in bangs can add a 60s finish to a bob.
Side Sweep
Emilio Pucci managed to tick off the majority of 2018 hair trends on the list. The sleek bob had a wet look, sideswept bangs and a clear retro influence.
Modern Mod
We didn't even need the pillbox hats to know that there was a clear 60s reference at Moschino. The show paid homage to Jackie Kennedy with hairstylist Paul Hanlon giving models bouffant bobs.
Modern Mod
Go-go girl! The updos at the Area Fall 2018 fashion show had a mod finish thanks to the voluminous twist at the back of the head and the center part. The bright eye makeup played up the psychedelic feel.
Modern Mod
The sleek, center-parted 'dos at Versace nodded to decades gone by. There was no denying that the geometric print headscarves had a mod girl vibe.
Modern Mod
A bouffant is one of the defining characteristics of a 60s hairstyle. Zimmermann deflated the look and added a straighter texture to keep it modern, but kept the center part in the front.
