There was no shortage of
hair trends on the Spring 2018 runways . We saw everything from
unique twists to
statement hair accessories, but one key look that continued from past seasons was the celebration of natural hair. With
runways becoming more diverse than ever , hairstylists are showing off models’ locks in all their natural glory, whether worn buzzed, in Afros, kinky or long and curly.
The celebration of natural hair has been building for the past few years. In 2015, Maria Borges made history for being the first black model to sport her natural hair at the
Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show . Flash forward to 2018 and natural hairstyles are a regular occurrence on the global runways.

21 Natural Hair Ideas from the Spring 2018 Runways
Short and Sweet
Not ready to commit to a buzz cut ? Try a cute pixie. A short hairstyle is unfussy and there's just enough length to show off natural curls. See this cute look for proof.
Put a Clip in It
Hair accessories featured prominently on the Spring 2018 runways. Simone Rocha offered a whimsical take with embellished barrettes decorating a side-parted hairstyle. Play around with how close the clips are placed to the part. It can totally change the vibe.
Shape of Things
Remember that it's as much about the shape of hair as the length. This short style brings the longer layers to the top of the head to show off those beautiful kinks. Bonus: The 'do makes hair look seriously thick.
Sharp Edges
Speaking of fantastic shapes, this flat top hairstyle cuts a sharp finish. Unlike some styles, it still retains some softness because hair hasn't been buzzed into crisp lines.
Knots About It
One twist is cute, but the more of them, the better. Shape hair into Bantu knots around the entire head. There's no need to worry about elaborate parting or getting knots all in the "perfect" spots. A bit of randomness actually adds to the appeal.
Close Shave
Take inspiration from It Brit model Adwoa Aboah and shave locks close to the scalp for a trendy buzz cut. It has cool-girl cred, it's truly a wash-and-go hairstyle and still shows off a bit of hair's natural texture.
Lovely Locks
Those with longer lengths, braids or dreadlocks can sweep them back into a ponytail. Arrange the pieces so they fall around both ears and frame the face. Finish with a pair of statement white sunglasses.
Big Hair
If hair is this full and thick, flaunt it. Style the front layers so they frame the face. Then tease the rest of tresses so they look even bigger than they actually are. For more drama, try lightening hair or experiment with a rainbow color .
Braided Back
Show off those gorgeous facial features with perfectly plaited cornrows. Leave the ends undone to let more of hair's natural texture show through.
Full 'Fro
A full Afro is a thing of beauty. Experiment with an oval shape rather than the typical rounded one by asking for more volume on top. Those feeling more experimental can also request baby bangs.
Short Hair Don't Care
You've probably got a lovely shaped head and it's likely you've never realized it. Show it off — along with natural hair — with a close crop. Notice how this haircut is perfectly even over the entire head?
Twisted Back
Love longer locks, but sometimes want them off your face? Try these boxer braids as seen at the Aigner Spring 2018 show. The way they curve around the face is very flattering. It's your call about adding hair chalk on the roots.
With the Band
Hairbands have graced a few runway shows of late. Naturally, Tom Ford had one of the most sophisticated options with thick black headbands fastened around strands. Make sure that hair is still visible from the top of the accessory. A hint of Afro peeking out the top is what makes it.
Slicked Down
Try a hot-off-the-runway hairstyle from the Milly Fall 2018 show. Use gel to scoop locks into a low ponytail. Keep hair slick to the head, but scrunch the ponytail to ensure that natural texture will be fully shown off in the ends.
Curly Girl
Show off every single spiral by using hair gel to define curls while they're wet. If they'll cooperate, encourage layers to frame the face like Dilone's beautiful 'do.
To the Side
Never underestimate the power of a part . Switch things up by combing tresses into a deep side part. Let layers fall where they please. It's a new look without a trip to the stylist.
Baby Twists
Look at that amazing texture. It goes to show that it's not necessary to have waist-skimming locks to create a striking look. Those growing out their pixies should remember this twisted look.
Fringe Benefits
Play around with the uneven bang and curly bang trends with one gorgeous look. A few face-framing strands complement a voluminous natural hairstyle.
Up Top
Many are using hot rollers and crimping irons to boost the volume of their hair. If you've already got the texture, make it more prominent with a cut that brings the volume to the top of the head like in this shorter Afro.
Favorite Hair Accessory
Look closely and you'll see that the secret to this look is one of our favorite old-school hair accessories: the zigzag headband. Use it to scoop layers back, then arrange the ends so they fall over the headband creating a pretty halo effect.
Crop It
Ladies with curly hair can definitely sport shorter hairstyles. See this one for photographic proof. Take inspiration from the hairdo and ask your stylist to sculpt a cut that's longer on the top and sides and shorter in the back.
