Fashion month isn’t all about the runway lewks or enviable street style , it’s also about beauty. Every season the pros backstage dream up hair and makeup looks that are on par with the designer collections. While we can’t resist some of the avant-garde hairstyles that are gelled, teased and twisted into gravity-defying ‘dos, we also love hairstyles that we can recreate ourselves. Thankfully, there was plenty of hair inspiration at the Spring 2018 shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris.
This season, there were some clear hair trends that emerged. Hair accessories were a key player and often appeared in larger-than-life proportions or in multiples. Braids and twists were another fixture and the low ponytail trend from last season made multiple appearances this time around. For those looking for something effortless, shows like Alexander Wang, Anna Sui and Tracy Reese presented tousled locks that were haute takes on bedhead.
Above, see the five hair trends we cannot wait to try from the Spring 2018 season.

Hairspiration: Five Trends We’re Obsessed With From the Spring 2018 Runways
Statement Hair Accessories
When Dolce & Gabbana accessorizes, the designers really accessorize. Models at the Spring 2018 show were decked out in jeweled headbands, crowns and elaborate headpieces. And then there were those shoulder-grazing, embellished eggplant earrings. #Slay
Statement Hair Accessories
The florals on the clothes at Naeem Khan were accented with contrasting bloom decorating models' hair.
Statement Hair Accessories
Look closely and it'll become clear that this isn't the average wet-look updo. In addition to embellishing eyes and lips, Dries Van Noten sent models down the runway with diamantés along their part lines.
Statement Hair Accessories
Simone Rocha made a strong case for barrettes thanks to this pretty hairstyle.
Statement Hair Accessories
Is it a floral fascinator or a hair accessory? Names aside, we can all agree that the gigantic hair flowers at The Blonds were blooming beautiful.
Statement Hair Accessories
Rodarte brought the romance and flowers with golden bows and sprigs of baby's breath punctuating models' hair.
Unique Twists
Want to try all of Spring 2018's hair trends? Start with this look from the Preen show. The low updo combines a traditional ponytail with a twist and a braid.
Unique Twists
Who said twists have to be complicated? Daks showed that a simple, undone twist at the nape of the neck can be effortlessly chic.
Unique Twists
Cushnie et Ochs reinvigorated the beloved top knot by pushing it forward and to the side. What's more, the shape was twisted more like a ballerina bun as opposed to a vertiginous knot.
Unique Twists
The more twists, the better, especially when they're as pretty as Emporio Armani's loose, twisted buns. It's the perfect update when we're suffering from single hun (half-bun) fatigue.
Unique Twists
The best hairstyles look amazing, but don't take hours to do. The hair at Rochas fulfilled both criteria with looped twists secured with long pieces of printed ribbon.
Unique Twists
Makeup lovers eagerly anticipated the Fenty x Puma show to see how Rihanna's just-launched Fenty Beauty products would be used. Prismatic skin was complemented by pretty twisted updos decorated with lime green string.
Next-Level Braids
Jil Sander demonstrated that good things come in multiples with this basket-weave braid. Start practicing the crisscross technique now. It's worth the effort.
Next-Level Braids
While it may have looked like the models at Jill Stuart were rocking tousled locks, there were actually braids mixed in with the bedhead for even more texture.
Next-Level Braids
Carmen Marc Valvo brought some Game of Thrones inspiration to the runway with a mix of loose waves, twisted braids and hair beads(!) Daenerys Targaryen would surely approve of.
Next-Level Braids
Can't decide between a braid and a bun? Do both. Delpozo merged plaits into a low, wide bun for a cool honeycomb effect.
Low Ponytails
Jil Sander also provided a unique interpretation of a low ponytail with this braid-pony hybrid. Strands were plaited into a fishtail braid down the nape of the neck, stopping a few inches before the end.
Low Ponytails
Prada's low ponies had piecey bangs and tails that sat at the nape of the neck.
Low Ponytails
Loewe's easy low ponytails sported a tousled texture. Instead of a hair elastic, they were secured with a chic tie.
Low Ponytails
Hairstylist Eugene Souleiman ensured that the ponytails at Preen were on point from all angles. Pieces of hair were left loose in the front creating a windswept look. In the back, low ponies were fastened closer to one ear. The look showed off a hint of neck as well as the tousled texture of the tail.
Low Ponytails
Erdem ticked off the hair accessories trend and the low pony trend with one look. Delicate black bows held together perfectly curled ponytails.
Tousled Locks
The Isabel Marant Spring 2018 runway show was all about that je ne sais quoi French girl hair that everyone tries to copy. The bit of texture in straight locks was très belle .
Tousled Locks
Alexander Wang adhered to his signature MOD aesthetic with tousled waves. Hairstylist Guido Palau created the "no blowdry" look that wasn't that different from the fashion designer's own hair.
Tousled Locks
Hair at Oscar de la Renta was relaxed but still had plenty of polish. Instead of gelled curls, strands were parted on the side with soft waves adding texture to the lengths.
Tousled Locks
The subtle texture at Tracy Reese had a cool #wokeuplikethis vibe. With the lack of frizz and seemingly lack of hair product, it was a softer approach compared to traditional bedhead.
Tousled Locks
Anna Sui brought the peace, love and flowers with face paint and continued the hippie theme with undone waves.
