Gone are the days of wondering whether you can “pull off” a shaved head. Perhaps it’s the ever-continuing rise of athleisure . Our realization that, when it comes to fashion, there is no right or wrong. Our general DGAF attitude in the face of uncertain political times. Our desire to reject the male gaze; subvert gender norms. Society is slowly expanding the definition of beauty. The fact that Millie Bobby Brown totally pulled off the look as Stranger Things ‘ Eggo-loving Eleven. Stifling summer humidity. Whatever the reason, shearing off all our hair has never seemed so appealing.
As with most beauty trends, celebrities are greatly responsible for the buzz cut’s come up. In recent months, a slew of style icons (as varied as bubblegum pop princess Katy Perry and actress-singer-It-girl Zoë Kravitz ) have summoned their nerves and reached for the clippers. Some adopted the hairstyle for acting roles, others wanted an easy, fuss-free ‘do. The general result is the same: All look beautiful and badass.

Cara Delevingne
Cara Delevingne caused a flurry of headlines when she hit the Met Gala red carpet rocking silver paint and a few gems in lieu of hair. Recently, the suit and Supreme lover's style has definitely tilted toward the feminine. "I’m preferring more to wear dresses and such, because I get to look at my femininity in a different way. The fact that there’s no upkeep, that’s my favorite part about it," the actress told WWD . "In the morning, it’s still a weird feeling to kind of brush my hand past my hair. But just doing it really was liberating. The kind of power and not needing hair to be beautiful, and that was the message I really thought I needed to spread," she added. Cara picked up the clippers in preparation for a new role opposite Jaden Smith.

Amandla Stenberg
Amandla Stenberg initially sheared off their hair for a role, but has since maintained the ultra short length. The actor unveiled their freshly shaved head in a January Instagram post . "I just finished working on a film called Where Hands Touch directed by the incredible @iammaasante," read the caption. "The story is about the experience of biracial children growing up in Nazi Germany. I shaved my head for the role. Feels really good. I feel so aerodynamic now. I've achieved ultimate speed. 🙂 Hope your year is off to a good start."

Katy Perry
Though not the textbook definition of a buzz cut, Katy Perry's platinum, micro-short 'do is pretty darn bold and did require a pair of clippers. First seen in an April 10 Instagram post , Katy later told Ellen DeGeneres that hair damage had necessitated the shave: "I did it about a month and some change ago…I don’t know if you’ve ever dyed your hair blonde, and too blonde, sometimes your hair falls out when you go too blonde. So, this is the way I handled it."

Adwoa Aboah
Model Adwoa Aboah feels liberated by her lack of hair. In July 2015, Adwoa told Teen Vogue the story behind the chop: "When I moved to LA, I was desperate for a hair trim. It went completely wrong, so I went to the hair genius, Gareth Bromell, to see if he could fix it. The solution was either to grow it out or cut it short; both ideas were horrific and staying the same would mean running around with a very strange Vidal Sassoon-looking hairdo. So I decided to go for the complete shave, and I couldn't have wished for anyone better to do it," she shared. "After many years of hating my hair, I finally felt no attachment to it. I was empowered, and for the first time, I don't need to carry around a large plastic bag of products, and it doesn't take me an hour to find all the hairpins after a night out."

Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart, queen of devil-may-care fashion, buzzed off and bleached her formerly chin-grazing brunette bob back in March. "I'm doing a movie in a couple weeks called Underwater and I play a mechanical engineer that's working in an oil rig that's on the bottom of the ocean floor," Kristen revealed on Today . "So for me, I was like, 'It's practical! I mean, I'm not going to be able to have touch-ups once I put the helmet on. I must shave my head!'" Still, she'd been wanting to try out the look for "a long time," just for "novel's sake."
