2016 is officially the year of the surrealist mouth. So far we’ve seen pouts covered in everything from Post-Impressionist works of art to globs of pure liquid gold. Then, just when we thought that the lipstick-as-art phenomenon had reached its peak — because who could top Pat McGrath’s gorgeous Lust 004 lip kit — some visionary went and added crystals to the beauty universe’s ever-expanding mouth palette.
These geode-inspired creations are so gorgeous we’d gladly forgo eating, speaking and breathing in order to quite literally rock the trend. Though a crystal lip is admittedly pretty difficult to DIY, one could (theoretically) achieve the extreme, three-dimensional look by first lining your lips with metallic lipstick or lip gloss, filling in the center of your pout using a jewel-tone lipstick, and finally topping things off with hexagonal, gemstone-like flecks of glitter, according to New York-based professional makeup artist Johanna, pioneer of the breathtaking editorial look. Under the handle @beyou.byjoh, Johanna shares her gemstone-inspired creations with upwards of 14.6k followers. Across the pond, another geology buff, über-talented Australian makeup artist Genevieve Jauquet, is captivating the gazes of 23.8K followers (and counting) with her amethyst and pyrite-inspired lip art.
Scroll down to take in all the crystal-induced magic. May it bring good juju to your afternoon.
