April 14, 2016 — We’re beginning to be concerned for Rihanna’s health. This week alone, in addition to jet-setting around the globe performing her Anti World Tour, media outlets announced that Rih is starring in a Pete Berg-directed autobiographical documentary, ideating and releasing a furry Fenty x Puma slide and using Twitter to inspire a gay fan to come out to his friends and family. To top it all off, WWD reports the Bahamian superstar is now developing a complete cosmetics collection in collaboration with the Kendo division of LVMH. And here we were, feeling accomplished for filing our taxes on time.
Fenty Beauty by Rihanna, as the product line is called — hashtag branding — will be available at Sephora stores in the fall of 2017 and other suitable outposts in disenfranchised, Sephora-less markets.
Kendo, the brainchild behind the much-beloved Kat Von D Beauty and Marc Jacobs Beauty lines, is extremely happy to have Rihanna (and compensate her with an estimated $10 million). Little wonder there: The Grammy-winner’s latest perfume launch with Parlux Ltd., RiRi, raised $46,000 when the fashion icon appeared at a Brooklyn Macy’s to promote her fragrance one profitable afternoon. “Fenty Beauty by Rihanna is a beauty rocket ship that will appeal to a huge and diverse global audience,” beamed David Suliteanu, chief executive officer of Kendo. “We are aiming for the stars.”
Though no other details about the line are available at this time, if her Puma successes are any evidence, Rihanna’s got creative direction down pat. We’re hoping for dramatic, Pat McGrath-esque metallic shadows and bold lip hues — i.e., the typical RiRi aesthetic. Not to mention a ton of enviable beach getaway grams in the near future because girl definitely deserves some time away.
