Jessica Stam stepped out during Paris Fashion Week for a Samsung event with a gorgeous, intricate braided updo. We couldn’t help but immediately assume that this style is way too advanced for our beginner skills. The model’s stylist, however, broke down the look for us, proving it’s not too difficult to recreate — as long as you know how to French braid hair.
Hairstylist Jennifer Yepez prepped Stam’s hair with Kérastase Volumifique Spray and Mousse before rough drying hair and parting it to the side. Yepez explains how she created the double braided updo: “I started a French braid on one side of her head, leaving a few pieces out to soften the look.” To get the cornrow effect, reverse braid (pull pieces under instead of over) the hair and then secure with clear elastics before repeating on the other side. Then simply mold the loose ends into the desired shape in the back of the head and secure them with pins at the nape of the neck. Finally, finish off the look with some extra hold hairspray.
