New York Fashion Week is simultaneously the longest and shortest week of an editor’s life — but also one of the more exciting ones. Besides cramming in a full day of show-going, backstage interviewing , transcribing and writing (let’s not forget meals and some sleep!), getting the inside scoop on what’s trending in beauty is what we love most. We’ve discussed the new nail art movement seen at NYFW as well as our favorite beauty looks of the week, now it’s time to talk trends. From 90s-inspired lipstick shades to tousled bedhead hair (literally, in the case of Michael Kors), here are the hair and makeup trends that ruled the runways for Fall 2015.

Leather Hair Accessories
Leather hair accessories took over hairstyles on the runways. At Carolina Herrera (left), Orlando Pita wrapped a raked back ponytail with a thin, metallic strip of leather, while models at Proenza Schouler got the headband treatment.

Graphic Liner
At Anna Sui (left), makeup artist Pat McGrath adorned models' eyes with sharp, graphic lines (and even the face for some). The models at Suno had inky, blocked lines painted on, while those at DKNY and Yigal Azrouël had the wildest of lines.

Laid-Back Texture
Hairstylist Orlando Pita instructed the Michael Kors (left) models to wash their hair the evening before the show and sleep with it while wet. The result: Lived-in, laid-back texture that was also the style of choice at many shows.

90s Lip Color
Early on in the week, Public School had us longing for the mauve and reddish-brown 90s lip color we loved. We later spotted the shade at Donna Karan, 3.1 Phillip Lim and an eggplant hue at Marc Jacobs.

Hair Knots
Backstage at Diane von Furstenberg (left), Orlando Pita created hair knots. We caught sight of knot variations like the extreme top knot at Marc Jacobs and Vera Wang's chignon of knots.

Subtle Sparkle
A little subtle sparkle never hurt anyone — besides, it's pretty. The catwalkers at Rodarte (left) were treated to Swarovski embellishments, while those at Ohne Titel got purple caviar dotting.
