Get the Look: Keira Knightley’s Edgy and Romantic Hair and Makeup

British actress Keira Knightley never has a bad beauty moment and we’re still gushing over her mix of edge and romance that inspired her look at the 2015 SAG Awards. Chanel makeup artist Kate Lee wanted to complement Keira’s beautiful plum Erdem dress and keep the look toned down for the mother-to-be. Lee was not only able to accomplish both, but did so in a way that still gave Keira her signature fashionista edge.

To get her warm smoky eye, use a gray eyeshadow — like Chanel Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eye Shadow in Prélude and Tissé Mademoiselle, used by Lee — and keep the shape round rather than blended outward. The other key to keeping the look romantic and pretty is to skip the eyeliner. Instead, dip an angled brush into water and use the eyeshadow to blend along the lash line to define the eyes.

Keep complexion natural and to achieve a rosy flush, use a multidimensional blush that will reflect light to make your cheeks pop. Chanel Jardin de Chanel Blush Camélia Rosé is silky and two-toned — perfect for this look. Staying with the romantic theme, opt for a tint-balm hybrid instead of a lipstick and skip the liner again. Keira wore Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Sheer Lip Color in Satisfaction.

For hair, Ben Skervin for Vidal Sassoon created the half-up, half-down style using a small handful of products and bobby pins. When recreating the hairstyle, texture and beach waves are key — a product like Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse is a great prep styler. Use a curling iron and wrap two-inch sections of hair down the rod, but leave out the ends to give it an undone effect. Comb through curled hair with fingers and spritz a dry shampoo or texturizing spray for the bedhead look. Finally, pin back two sections of hair from either side of the head and secure with bobby pins. Don’t forget to pull out a few pieces to frame your face and up the cool factor.
