Over Waxed
Years ago I had my brows waxed at my local nail salon in NYC. The wax was either too harsh or too hot…when they ripped it off, I think it took about 10 layers of skin with it. I was left with raw, red skin under my brows that eventually scabbed over and didn’t heal completely for a few weeks! Now I only go to brow specialists when I need a touch-up. — Jennifer Davidson, Managing Editor

Platinum Gone Wrong
When I was a freshman in college, I was dating a dreadful boy who told me he wished I was a blonde. So, like many naive 18 year olds looking for love in all the wrong places, I marched myself to the salon and underwent a three-hour bleaching process. My little brown pixie became my cat-pee yellow pixie with a texture that vaguely resembled hay. I wore a lot of berets that semester. — Maria Denardo, Fashion Director

Taming Brows
My eyebrows have been both my nemesis and a defining feature for me. I inherited the caterpillar brows that run on the men’s side of the family. For years they varied between overly plucked to far too bushy. Then I went to Sania’s Brow Bar and got the perfect shape tweezed. She’s a godsend. Goodbye unibrow, hello arches. — Amina Akhtar, Editorial Director

Lipstick Mess
Part of the reason I don't wear lipstick to this day is because of a major mess that happened back in high school. I thought I'd be daring and rock a red lip to school one morning — big mistake. Not only was my fire engine red lipstick smudged all over my chin and upper lip within an hour of arriving to class, but my teeth were victims of the red lipstick. Lesson learned! — Adrianna Barrionuevo, Beauty Editor

Overplucking
I destroyed what were once Cara D-esque eyebrows with vicious overplucking in my teens. It’s been a long process trying to get them back! I haven’t tweezed anything other than egregious stray hairs in years, and I fake fuller brows with the Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil. One end is a spoolie brush, and the other a flat, angled pencil. The shape makes filling brows in super easy, the buildable pigment looks really natural and the waxy texture keeps errant hairs in place. It lasts all day and never smears — absolutely worth the price tag. — Meg Clark, Social Media Manager

Bleached Brows
That one time when I thought bleaching my brows would be a good idea — they turned orange a few hours later. Unfortunately in a case like this, the only thing to do is go very dark to cover up the orange, while you wait for the orange brow hairs to fall out (dark tints only last about three weeks, meanwhile I've been waiting for almost a year for my orange hairs to fall out). Warren Tricomi's brow pro Misty, however, is awesome and because I'm a little self-conscious with dark brows, she tinted my lashes, which helps balance them out. — Sharon Feiereisen, Contributor
