“The inspiration is a sophisticated rave girl,” explained makeup artist Aaron de Mey backstage at ADEAM. “The music for the show is very 90s rave, the colors are neon/fluorescent, so I kept the focus on a daring cheek.” De Mey used MAC’s Morange Lipstick ($16) as a base for the blush. “It’s almost a neon orange, so I’m using a shocking color in a sophisticated way,” he said. He kept blush on the cheekbones and avoided wrapping the blush line to the front. “As soon as you wrap blush around the front it starts to look cute, and we want our girl to look tough and daring. When you look at the girls from the front, they are very sharp, and from the side, they look very contoured.” De Mey used the blush below the foundation to make the bright color appear to be coming from within the skin and not placed on top. MAC’s Lipglass ($15) was used over the lids and lips to create a wet effect.
