Whenever I think of blue eye shadow, I automatically recall childhood memories of playing with Barbie in the 80’s.
And, just like Barbie and her vintage wardrobe, all fashions, hair styles, and beauty need to be updated as time passes.
However, this time around, blue shadow is coming up on the runway in electric new hues, ranging from deep, metallic denims to pale, sky blues that will flatter almost any skin tone and eye color.
A pale blue liner under the eye is a gorgeous, summer day look for a pale blonde, while a monochromatic, deep sapphire will flatter a sexy brunette on an evening out.
Pretty, pastel blues on Derek Lam’s models complemented their summer looks and colorful makeup palettes (left). Sexy, dramatic and smoky, blue eyes highlighted the rocker-girl aesthetic for Gwen Stefani’s LAMB collection (right).
A sweet, ballerina bun, pink lips and soft, blue lids brought an edgy look to Ruffian’s elegant collection.
Red carpet beauties are also rocking this trend. Nicole Richie showed off her 60’s glam Valley of the Dolls look at the Tony Awards with a matte blue shadow and fabulous blue sparkling gown (left). Jennifer Lopez is gorgeous with her pastel, blue shadow, pale lips, and glowing Miami skin (right).
Blue shadow isn’t just for bubbly 80’s blondes anymore, so Barbie had better watch out, and step aside to make room for these updated versions.
