Rihanna’s Fenty brands have been in the headlines lately for all the right reasons. When RiRi heard SZA was racially profiled at Sephora trying to buy Fenty Beauty, she sent her fellow singer a gift card. And RiRi just became the first black woman to head a luxury fashion house. Now everyone is praising RiRi (us included) for not Photoshopping away a model’s scars in promos for her new luxury venture.
South Sudanese model Aweng Chuol flaunts a pair of ear cuffs on the Fenty site and the brand left her scars intact. And the accolades started pouring in. Twitter user Farah quickly brought the bold move to everyone’s attention. The tweet garnered positive feedback with another user responding, “Wow! As a girl with scars, this really touches my heart. I’ve never had any reason to feel less terrible about my scars until seeing this.”
Aweng posted the stunning photo on her Instagram and started sharing her story. “They are part of who I am. I had it instilled in me from a young age that my scars made me beautiful,” the model proclaimed in a 2018 interview with Dazed.
We can’t wait to see what’s next for RiRi and Aweng.
