Balayage Isn't Going Anywhere
"The balayage technique continues to grow in popularity by creating different varieties of it," says Abby Haliti, senior colorist and balayage expert at the Julien Farel salon in New York City who also works with Olivia Palermo. "It's a great option for newbies and it doesn’t require the insane upkeep of coloring all of your strands."

Tiger Eye Balayage
Named after the stone, tiger eye balayage is a mix of beautiful caramel and deep brown highlights. "Tiger eye balayage is the new bronde," says Allison Rappel, colorist at the Antonio Prieto Salon in New York City. "This look complements warm brunette tones rich in gold, amber and honey shades."

Color Melting
Piggybacking off tiger eye balayage, Tyler Colton, a stylist who works with Roselyn Sanchez and Constance Wu, says that color melting will continue to thrive this year. "Color melting is the new trend that allows colorists to use multiple tones of color to create seamless color from root to ends, whether you are a brunette or a blonde," he says.

Melted Brunette
Different from balayage but similar, the color melting technique allows for a more fluid movement of colors.

Melting Colors
The whole idea of color melting is that it takes a bunch of different colors in the same spectrum and blends them together to look as if the highlights could be happening naturally in the person's hair. "It creates a multidimensional color effect," says Tyler Colton.

Blond Blending
"If you're a blonde, the same color melt can be used with toners to create a soft honey blonde to a champagne blonde all in one swipe," says Tyler Colton.

Metallic Manes
"Metallic tones are also in popular demand," says Allison Rappel. "These tones include a 'metal' like finish and can vary in tone."

The New Gray
"Pre-lightening is used to achieve these tones, which can be damaging," says Allison Rappel. "I recommend toning every four to six weeks, followed by a strengthening treatment to keep the hair color vibrant and your hair in the best condition."

Sun-Kissed Blonde
"To achieve richness and depth on lighter hair, I like to use demi-permanent hair color because it creates more shine and is less damaging," says Allison Rappel. "Pops of dimension and brightness can be added with a touch of balayage around the face."
