After all, how can you make something better than balayage and gray hair? Well, the truth is, you probably can’t. We asked top hairstylists to list the most popular hair color trends of 2017 and a lot of them are extensions of already existing trends. There’s an updated and punchier version of balayage, new forms of metallic hair and specific shades of natural hair colors in store for this year.

Balayage Isn't Going Anywhere
"The balayage technique continues to grow in popularity by creating different varieties of it," says Abby Haliti, senior colorist and balayage expert at the Julien Farel salon in New York City who also works with Olivia Palermo. "It's a great option for newbies and it doesn’t require the insane upkeep of coloring all of your strands."

Named after the stone, tiger eye balayage is a mix of beautiful caramel and deep brown highlights. "Tiger eye balayage is the new bronde," says Allison Rappel, colorist at the Antonio Prieto Salon in New York City. "This look complements warm brunette tones rich in gold, amber and honey shades."

"Color melting is the new trend that allows colorists to use multiple tones of color to create seamless color from root to ends, whether you are a brunette or a blonde," he says.
