There’s no denying that most girls have somewhat of a love affair going on with their favourite shoes. Be it an expensive pair of designer Louboutins or an on-trend high street steal, they can totally transform your outfit and the way that you feel.
This week, we previewed one of this summer’s most highly-anticipated exhibitions. Shoes: Pleasure and Pain at London’s iconic V&A museum explores the transformative power of extreme footwear. From the agonizing pain that the most innovative pairs of shoes can inflict to the sheer obsession of creating your own collection, this exhibition is a must for any shoeaholic.
Most of the shoes on display have never been exhibited before and there are over 250 pairs from around the world for you to gush over. Get an education in the history of footwear in different cultures thanks to pieces like the ancient Egyptian pure gold leaf embellished sandals or discover the most innovative of modern shoe design with pieces created via 3-D printing.
Plus, no exhibition would be complete without featuring a few pieces by some of our favourite high-profile figures and this one certainly doesn’t disappoint. Drool over pieces worn by style icons like Marilyn Monroe, Lady Gaga and those iconic Vivienne Westwood heels that supermodel Naomi Campbell once fell in on the runway. After seeing the almost impossible to walk in shoes up close in person, it’s not surprising that she took a tumble. If that’s not exciting enough, we also found Carrie Bradshaw’s missing Choo that she lost in an episode of Sex and the City whilst racing for the Staten Island Ferry!
