An air of performance was in the air for Marc Jacobs’ Spring 2010 collection. The models – who were the biggest and best as usual – looked as if they had just finished a performance; hair swept back and faces covered in powder. “If last season was a trip back in time to the eighties,” said the designer, “this was a trip to the theater, the ballet, the opera.”
Notes of costume were threaded throughout the impressive collection alluding to dancers, performers and even a harlequin. Another not-surprising inspiration seemed to be Japanese designers and their eye for detail and embellishment.
The models sparkled from their heads to their toes, donning sequined tulle and – *shock* – flip-flops in their feet. Trends of the season were also evident. From blush organza to a shorts suit with ruffled shoulders, retailers seemed pleased that the designer had produced another saleable collection.
It was a bit of a departure for the man who ‘invented’ grunge, and the designer noted he was tiring of sending girls out in the same things.
