Fanciful looks from Vivienne Westwood Red Label, Anna Sui, Philip Treacy and Comme des Garcons experiment with shape, texture and color, often turning our usual idea of what’s “wearable” on its head.

Anna Dello Russo is known for pushing the envelope with her style. She was spotted outside of the Philip Treacy show during London Fashion Week taking a fairly conservative dress to a new sartorial level with a giant floral hat and veil. The Met Gala is an event where celebs can be counted on to try creative looks that might be too costumey in other settings. Model Karolina Kurkova looked statuesque in a glittering gold gown and turban by Rachel Zoe. Sarah Jessica Parker has little fashion fear, and she looked like a royal in a Valentino Couture gown and embroidered coat at the New York City Ballet fall gala. Singer Florence Welch often dons dramatic costumes for her performances—at the Met Gala, she look like she could’ve taken flight in a multi-tiered dress with all-over embellishment and voluminous sleeves by Alexander McQueen.

Katy Perry is known for her quirky fashion sense, including the technicolored hair she helped make popular in 2012. She stood out on the street in London with electric blue locks. Beyoncé doesn’t often go wild with style, but she couldn’t resist at the Met Gala, wearing a creatively cut-out Givenchy gown with a graduated violet feather skirt. Daphne Guinness is certainly an exotic dresser as she showed off at the New York City Ballet Fall Gala, looking almost wicked in a silver neck coil and jeweled glove that gave the impression of a robotic hand. Finally, no roundup of fantastical fashions would be complete without Lady Gaga. The pop star seemingly hasn’t worn anything normal in her life, including this halo-like headgear and fur ensemble she wore to Harrod’s in London.
