There has been a lot of news this week surrounding the 2012 resort season, not least of which was the news I learned at a Neiman Marcus event that Rachel Zoe’s Resort 2012 line will be carried at all 41 Neiman Marcus stores and online, as well as at Bergdorf Goodman (owned by Neiman). Reportedly, Shopbop, Nordstrom, Saks, Intermix, and Kirna Zabete will also stock the line which is “so major” (as Zoe would say) for a new designer. Here’s a recap of what else went down this week (see here for a look at Rachel Zoe’s line).
M Missoni: Angela Missoni has been quite the busy bee – what with designing a 400 piece collection for Target and all – so it’s perhaps little surprise that she showed a collection inspired by a staple Missoni period, the Sixties. Let’s just hope color blocking, stripes, and bright colors are just as on-trend when this collection hits stores as they are now.
DKNY: Donna Karan showed a perfectly balanced collection this resort season. The designer combined easy-to-wear staple dresses including a scarf print dress that, in a Norma Kamli-esque twist, can be worn five different ways, along with after-dark looks that included a popping red shearling coat and a red paillette skirt.
Gucci: Few do jet-setting resort chic as well as Gucci and this season Frida Giannini turned to the glamorous women of the Fifties and Sixties for inspiration — think pleating, color blocking, and gold sequins. Note that while color blocking is a trend heavy in the current Gucci collection, for Resort 2012 Giannini opted for more subdued colors.
Robert Cavalli: The designer’s signature vibrant prints and loose-fitting, sexy silhouettes may have been there, but for Resort 2012, Cavalli also worked in some darker pieces, including a beautiful strapless gown.
