Loris Diran S/S 2011

“I have always loved Diana Ross,” says Loris Diran, “And there are some wonderful scenes between Diana Ross and Anthony Perkins in the movie Mahogany that influenced some of the styling in this collection.”

Entitled “Urban Oasis,” the color palette in this collection was drawn from the sun-faded colors of the desert, the heat-baked sidewalks of New York City, and the bounty of summer flora.

And as with any oasis, the lush vegetation is surrounded by harsh realities. The dusty beiges of the desert are expressed beautifully in form-fitting pant ensembles, while the lush aspects are revealed in one-shoulder, floral print cocktail looks.

Loris Diran ingeniously merged this rich palette with a collection that not only referenced a certain sophisticated style of the mid-70s, but also extended that aesthetic into a vision of where fashion is going.

This is the genius of Diran; understanding how to reference without being bogged down by inference. For him, the inspiration is a jumping off point, not a literal translation. And as with all his collections, there is incredible retail value.
